Landscapes and farmland
Similar to the winegrowers that work the land, the landscapes of the Domaine de l’Arjolle show great diversity.

Some of the places on the hills, like the “Hauts de Pechs”, allow a great view over an open countryside, while others, like the riversides of the “Thongue” give more intimacy. In any case, the soils are very generous and “do their best”.
The different soil types reflect the same diversity :
- On the plateaus you find the more or less well drained heavy and gravelly Pliocene soils, the potential of which is revealed by Grenache and Cabernet sauvignon.
- In the vineyards close to the “Hauts de Peche”, on marl and calcareous, gravelly clay soils, being well structured by regular compost supply, we harvest our finest Syrah grapes for our Cuvée Paradoxe.
- The prevailing landscape on the Domaine de l’Arjolle, is covered by pebbly hillsides, with light coloured soils composed of sandy and limonitic marls. These are prolific soils, easy to cultivate, on which we maintain a grass cover to prevent erosion during heavy rainfalls in winter. On these terraces our Sauvignons, Chardonnays, Muscats and Viogniers give their finest expressions to our white wines.
- Down slope, where rivers mould the scenery, you’ll find some alluvial and colluvial soils, with sufficient water supply. These are the terroirs “loved” by our Merlot and Cabernet franc. A permanent grass cover regulates strength of growth of the vines; a selective harvest allows producing our Cuvée Synthèse de l’Arjolle here.
This is the place we live. Soils and scenery of the Arjolle are our main concern, to enhance its biodiversity and to improve soil quality. Both aspects are necessary for our pursuit in producing wines, the diversity of which corresponds to our different personalities.
